Green Building Projects and Verification
The building industry is the single largest contributor to global warming and the largest user of resources in the country. Green building — a commonsense approach to building design, construction and operations — lays out an organized approach that results in proven solutions that significantly reduce emissions and the resource load on the planet.
The energy used to operate buildings accounts for 39 percent of carbon dioxide emissions and 48 percent of all greenhouse gases in the United States. The location of the building also influences the subsequent transportation-related impacts from the occupants and visitors to the building.
Green Building programs look at five areas found on all construction and remodeling projects.
- The building site and outdoor environment
- Water Conservation
- Energy Conservation
- Use and procurement of materials
- Indoor Air Quality
Studies show that green buildings have many advantages:
- Employees are healthier and more productive
- Retail sales and student test scores increase
- Rents and resale values are higher
- Annual operating expenses are lower
We have participated in the greening of projects from large commercial buildings to small residential remodels. We can help guide you through the multitude of options for green products and practices to identify the ones that make the most sense for you.
We hold both the LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and the Certified Sustainable Building Advisor (CBSA) designations. We also are certified to verify residential green building projects for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the local “Built Green” programs operated by the local chapters of the NAHB.
We have participated in the design and planning of many projects in the region and can help you with yours. We also provide verification services for many green building rating systems.
